Everything fans thought they knew about the Infinity Stones is about to change, and it's introducing a major problem for Thor. With the inevitable return of Thanos being set up in the current Marvel Comics, the recently discovered seventh Infinity Stone and the tool capable of harnessing its power are being put on display on the cover of Thor #35 by Torunn Grønbekk, Sergio Fernandez Davila, and Juan Gedeon. Set to release in June, the cover sparks all new theories on the mysterious "black stone" and its Anti Infinity Gauntlet.
Thor has been searching for answers since his discovery of the black Infinity Stone in Thanos: Death Notes #1 by Torunn Grønbekk, Andrea Di Vito, and David Curiel last year. The stone, which seemingly has influence over life and death itself, is becoming more and more likely to be the tool that brings about Thanos' resurrection. The stone's connection to Asgard, Thor, and his family inextricably ties Thor and Thanos together, explaining a vision Thor had that showed Thanos killing him and wielding what readers now know is a black Infinity Gauntlet. This Anti Infinity Gauntlet can be seen in possession of Hela on Nic Klein's cover for Thor #35, which was shared by League of Comic Geeks.
The 'Anti Infinity Gauntlet' Could Be the Key to Thanos' Return
The apparent need for the black stone in Thanos' return to Marvel Comics is becoming clearer and clearer as Thor's story progresses, making their eventual encounter all the more likely. Not only is Thor searching for answers about the black stone and its connection to Thor's grandfather, but Corvus Glaive has been searching for information on the stone as well, another sign that points to Thanos' involvement. On the cover of Thor #35, the Anti Infinity Gauntlet and the black stone embedded into it are on full display, finally answering questions from Thor's vision of Thanos last year, and sparking even more questions about what the future holds for the Marvel Universe if the Anti Infinity Gauntlet finds itself in the wrong hands in the process.
Anticipation over Thanos' return has sparked fan theories over just how that would happen, especially due to the mysterious nature of the black stone and the gauntlet that apparently aids it. Thor's vision in Thanos: Death Notes previewed the Mad Titan's resurrection, and his possession of Anti Infinity Gauntlet long before it was revealed to be its own unique apparatus. Now, on the cover of Thor #35, it's finally made clear just what the Anti Infinity Gauntlet is, and makes Thor's vision all the more terrifying. There may still be more to learn about just how Thanos, the black stone, and the new Infinity Gauntlet factor into Thor's story, but they only seem to be linking the two characters closer and closer together leading up to their eventual confrontation.
As one of Marvel's all-time most powerful villains, the return of Thanos was only a matter of time. With the addition of the new Infinity Stone and its connection with Asgard, however, the final showdown between Thor and Thanos is going to be that could completely shift the status quo of the Marvel universe.
