A key location appearing in Fear the Walking Dead could explain how the show comes to an end. After an eight-season story, AMC’s first Walking Dead spinoff will come to a conclusion. After bringing back Madison at the end of season 7, FTWD will give Morgan’s group one last challenge to overcome in the Walking Dead universe. There’s no mystery as to what they’ll be against when Fear the Walking Dead returns for its final season. Morgan, Madison, and all the others will have to contend with PADRE, the very organization Alicia was once convinced would be their salvation.
Based on what’s been shown in the marketing and what was said in the synopsis, PADRE will capture the show’s principal characters and place them under their “cynical rule” on their island. It would seem that either overthrowing PADRE or escaping the island will wind up becoming the primary goal of Morgan and the others as the story unfolds. As for how this struggle will play out, that remains to be seen.
PADRE’s Island Can Set Up Fear The Walking Dead’s Ending
A possible hint at how things may end for Morgan’s group can be found in one of the settings for Fear the Walking Dead season 8. PADRE has made their headquarters on an island, which is obviously a very defensible location and an ideal place to be in the zombie apocalypse. Assuming that they’d been there long to eliminate all the zombies, their only zombie-related concerns come from the risk of their own dying and turning. That’s likely the reason why PADRE is there in the first place, and may have to do with why Morgan’s group will be sticking around through season 8. It could be that instead of simply fleeing, they’ll be intent on taking the island for themselves.
Beating PADRE could lead to a happy, hopeful ending for the show’s main characters. If they can succeed in taking down Fear the Walking Dead's PADRE and clearing the island of their remaining forces, they’d be able to create a safe haven for them to inhabit going forward. Together with the people they liberate from PADRE’s control, Morgan’s group can build a community safe from the zombies in the Walking Dead universe. If such a task can really be accomplished, the characters can bring their long fight for survival to a halt.
Taking PADRE’s Island Would Pay Off Fear the Walking Dead’s Longest Story
This being the ending the franchise chooses for Fear the Walking Dead would make sense, especially when considering how this has been the characters' top priority for a while. Unlike the situation with The Walking Dead where the characters have had a home for years now, Morgan’s group has had much less success in finding any sort of stability. Morgan tried to build something good with the settlement he formed in season 6, and later intended to do the same in season 7 by taking Strand’s tower. But of course, that too ended in disaster. Finding a home has been a hard journey fraught with hardships and failures in Fear the Walking Dead, but PADRE’s island could be the perfect answer they’ve been waiting for all these years.
