Superman & Lois May Still Have a Future at The CW

The CW’s future is a complete mystery. After the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the changes within the company, and modifications inside the network itself, fans are wondering what will happen to their beloved shows, especially the ones related to the DC universe, which seem to be the most unlikely to continue in the middle of James Gunn’s new administration of the franchise.

In 2012, The CW started a television universe with the release of Arrow, which would later be called the Arrowverse. Under that banner, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman, and ultimately Stargirl premiered on the network, building a fantastic franchise that could compete with the one on the big screen.

Unfortunately, since the end of Arrow in 2020, things have spiraled out of control, and the DC-based shows started to lower their audiences, and most of them got canceled before getting a decent closure. The Flash was the only one that survived, but now that it will end, the future is uncertain for many CW originals.

According to a new report from TVLine, only one of The CW's current scripted shows has been renewed for a new season: All American. Unfortunately, this means All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois, Walker, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters are at high risk of being canceled.

All American: Homecoming is the only one from that list with a higher chance of continuing, considering the original show was already renewed.

What Will Happen to Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights?

When it comes to the DC shows, things are a little more complicated. Superman & Lois has become quite a success, especially since it’s also streamed on HBO Max. The series is a hit among the critics and Superman fans, so it might still have a chance of being saved by the streaming service and continuing as an Elseworlds project from DC Studios, such as the Harley Quinn animated series.

On the other hand, Gotham Knights has generated mixed reactions from the audience, although its reception has been more favorable now than what was said before its release. So the Batman spin-off’s renewal and continuity on HBO Max could be a long shot, but still possible. In fact, TVLine reveals that Superman & Lois and Walker are up for renewal at The CW. But when it comes to Gotham Knights, The Winchesters, and Walker: Independence, the outlet seems unsure about their future.
