Rick & Michonne's Walking Dead Show Is Avoiding 1 Fatal Mistake

New details regarding Rick and Michonne’s Walking Dead show reveal that the spinoff is avoiding what would have been a fatal mistake. Airing sometime in 2024, the untitled series is one of three unreleased spinoffs set to join AMC’s Walking Dead franchise. Years after they were forced apart by Rick’s abduction, the two characters finally have a confirmed reunion on the horizon. Of course, the circumstances of their next meeting remain open to speculation. What is known, though, is that Michonne is searching far and wide for Rick, who tried at least once to escape from The Walking Dead's CRM.

Michonne’s exit from the main show in season 10 led to the impression that the franchise ended on converging their storylines, but it was unclear as to when it will happen. But with the two getting their own spinoff, it’s become apparent that the two sharing scenes again is inevitable for the franchise. But even after the show was announced, there was still no assurance of exactly when their reunion would take place. After all, the synopsis indicated that the focus of the series would be their efforts to find each other.

Rick & Michonne Will Be Together In Their Walking Dead Spinoff

Set photos of Lincoln and Gurira filming scenes together put to rest one of the biggest concerns related to the spinoff’s story. The synopsis made it a real possibility that in spite of it being their show, The Walking Dead may put off their reunion and make it the endgame of the season. However, these set photos of the two characters talking and running away from zombies suggest otherwise. From the looks of things, The Walking Dead won’t make viewers wait until the final episode to see Rick and Michonne together.

What this implies is that the spinoff won’t be a six-episode escape attempt for Rick Grimes or a drawn-out journey with Michonne scouring the countryside for him. Instead, it seems The Walking Dead spinoff may allow Michonne’s search to come to fruition early, with her character crossing paths with Rick early on. If that happens, the bulk of the show’s story may involve the two working together, while also touching on the personal conflict between Rick and Michonne that was teased by the synopsis.

Keeping Rick & Michonne Apart Would Have Been A Mistake

The Walking Dead easily could have kept Rick and Michonne apart until the end, thus setting it up to be the focus of a second season, but it’s actually for the best that the spinoff steer clear of this course. The idea of Rick and Michonne being together again is one of the show’s biggest appeals, so delaying the reunion to the end wouldn’t do the concept justice. The spinoff would be better served making the most of their chemistry and exploring how not only their relationship but the characters themselves have been changed by all the years they’ve been apart in the Walking Dead universe.
