Captain America's Spider-Man Makeover Creates An Even Better Costume

Coinciding with the return of the Spider-Man-centric Edge of Spider-Verse series, Marvel Comics will be issuing commemorative variant covers dedicated to their trademark superheroes, one of which happens to be focused on Sam Wilson's iteration of Captain America. This cover showcases a Sam from an alternate universe who has been bitten by a radioactive spider, which grants him spider-like abilities as well as a fitting new costume.

Beginning in 2022 from the creative team of Tochi Onyebuchi, R.B. Silva, and Jesus Aburtov, Captain America: Symbol of Truth makes Sam Wilson the official Captain America of the Marvel Universe. Though Steve Rogers retains the Captain America name, Sam's version of Cap looms larger than ever in his effort to fight the good fight. Throughout the series, Sam has begun to uncover a sinister plot with ramifications to both the Captain America legacy and the world at large, teaming up alongside the likes of fellow heroes:

Misty Knight, Nomad, Joaquin Torres' Falcon, and Deadpool. As Sam cements his place as Captain America, Marvel has revealed an upcoming set of variant covers featuring Wilson in a Spider-Verse-inspired Captain America uniform, set for release this spring.

Sam Wilson Is Even More Impressive As Spider-Man

The Spider-Verse variant cover for May's Captain America: Symbol of Truth #13 is brought to life by artist and New York Times bestseller Pete Woods, who firmly established himself to comic fans by lending his talents to Excalibur and Deadpool in the 1990s. The cover itself depicts Sam Wilson's traditional red, white, and blue with a Spider-Man motif added to both his costume and shield, swinging above a cityscape setting. Captain America: Symbol of Truth #13 will find Sam and his small-knit team of heroes, including the original iteration of Captain America (Steve Rogers), in their battle against Black Panther's villainous brother White Wolf.

Onyebuchi and Silva's Symbol of Truth #13 will be a part of Marvel's upcoming Captain America: Cold War event, which will begin within the pages of Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Tochi Onyebuchi's Captain America: Cold War Alpha #1. Cold War will bring together two eras of Captain America's Wilson and Rogers on a trip to the interdimensional Dimension Z and run from April to June.

Meanwhile, the End of The Spider-Verse event is raging in Spider-Man comics, and this includes a new Edge of Spider-Verse anthology, which has introduced new variants of the character from throughout the Multiverse. With Captain America preparing to come to blows with Rogers and the White Wolf, Wilson taking on the mantle of Spider-Man may be a bit of a tall order, but Marvel fans always appreciate the impossible mash-ups of different heroes that these precious alternate covers provide.
