Gerard Butler stars as an undercover CIA operative in the first trailer for the upcoming action thriller, Kandahar.
The first trailer for the upcoming thriller Kandahar drops action hero Gerard Butler into the middle of a warzone. Released courtesy of Open Road Films, the action outing sees Butler reunite with Angel Has Fallen and Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh and finds the actor once again demonstrating his particular set of skills to survive. Check out the trailer for Kandahar below.
Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, written by Mitchell LaFortune, and produced by Gerard Butler, Kandahar finds the Law Abiding Citizen and Den of Thieves star leading the way as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, who finds himself stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.
Kandahar stars Olivia-Mai Barrett (Soon Gone: A Windrush Chronicle, The Man Who Fell to Earth), Rebecca Calder (Wrath of Man), Ali Fazal (Victoria & Abdul, Furious 7), Navid Negahban (Aladdin, 12 Strong), Bahador Foladi (Tehran), Faizan Munawar Varya, Nina Toussaint-White (Bodyguard, Doctor Who), and Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Raised by Wolves) alongside Butler. Kandahar looks like another perfect project for Butler following the release of Plane, which has since become one of the action star’s most critically acclaimed outings.
Gerard Butler Will Next Star in Sequels to Two of His Biggest Action Movie Hits
Gerard Butler is all set to star in sequels to two of his biggest action movie hits, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and Night Has Fallen, the latest installment in the Fallen franchise. Released in 2018, the first Den of Thieves follows Butler as Detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien, the hard-drinking, hard-fighting leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tasked with stopping a gang of thieves that is planning to rob the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles.
The sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, has been on the cards for some time and will pick up with Nick sometime after the first movie. Taking him to Europe, Nick is still on the hunt for criminal mastermind Donnie Wilson (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) with the sequel gearing up to begin shooting later this year. “We're Europe-bound, we're still on the hunt for Donnie who's now on the diamond district in Marseilles,” Butler said of the Den of Thieves follow-up. “I go over to hunt him down, but with different intentions than you might imagine. So we're gonna be in Marseilles, the Alps and London - it's definitely a more glamorous journey than the last one, and probably a more fun, sexy journey."
As for Night Has Fallen, the fourth outing in the Fallen franchise will see Butler return in his starring role as the unstoppable Secret Service Agent Mike Banning with director Ric Roman Waugh once again at the helm. Not only is Night Has Fallen on the cards, but the studio has big plans for the world of Fallen, with series producer Alan Siegel having announced plans for a fifth and sixth movie, as well as TV spin-offs.
