Fast X might kill a main character, but doing so would require breaking a 10-year Fast & Furious franchise trend. With the Fast Saga racing toward its conclusion, the stakes for Dominic Toretto and his team are inevitably rising. Jason Momoa's villain Dante is connected to the past and is threatening to kill a member of Dom's team. It might seem like a stretch that the character will be successful, but the trailers have played up someone dying, and even director Louis Leterrier has mentioned that Fast X could kill main characters. That tease has created an understandable concern that not everyone will make it out of Fast X alive.
The Fast & Furious franchise has turned away from killing characters in recent years, though. The movies have been more focused on bringing back characters who died, like Han, to expand the cast than whittle the ensemble down. This was not always the case for the street racing franchise, as early Fast & Furious movies made a habit of killing major characters. This included Jesse dying in The Fast and the Furious, Vince dying in Fast Five, and killing Han and Letty before retconning those moves. If Fast & Furious 10 kills a main character, it will break a 10-year trend.
Fast & Furious 6 Was The Last Movie To Kill A Member Of Dom’s Team
Gisele's death in Fast & Furious 6 represents the last time the franchise killed a main member of Dom's team. Gal Gadot's character died in the climax of her third appearance in the franchise. Ever since Fast & Furious 6 killed Gisele, those who have been on Dom's team have avoided dying on their dangerous missions. Since that movie was released in 2013, 2023's Fast X killing a main character would break the franchise's current 10-year streak. While The Fate of the Furious did kill Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), she was not part of Dom's team, even if she was his former love interest and the mother of his child.
The irony with the Fast & Furious death trend that Fast & Furious 6 started is that theories have continued to rise about if Gisele is actually alive. The rising stardom of Gal Gadot since she left the franchise has increased calls for her to return. Since Fast & Furious 6 never showed Gisele's body and the franchise has a history of retconning deaths in various ways, it has become quite believable that the same could happen for Gal Gadot's character. As a result, Fast & Furious 10 killing a main character would need to stick to its decision.
Who Is Most Likely To Die In Fast X
If Fast X does kill a member of Dom's team, there are some potentially huge candidates. It would seem that Letty and Han are safe since they have already "died" before, while Mia dying would hurt Brian O'Connor's status. Deckard Shaw is also unlikely to die unless Hobbs & Shaw 2 definitely is not happening, while Brie Larson's Tess is too new to kill. It would also be a surprise if Jakob Toretto died this quickly.
That leaves recurring members of the team like Roman, Tej, and Ramsey as characters who could die in Fast & Furious 10. Roman and Tej have been around longer than Ramsey, so either of them dying in Fast X could have a massive impact on Dom's mindset heading into the final movie. There is also a chance that Cipher will die after making the switch to join Dom's team. Since Fast X cannot kill Vin Diesel's character either, having one of his friends or former enemies die could help set up the sequel.
