Everything We Know About The Mandalorian Star Wars Movie

A movie continuation of The Mandalorian is happening, and Star Wars has already revealed a number of key details about the new project. The Mandalorian first premiered to huge acclaim in 2019, with a trio of seasons airing on Disney+. Set between the original and sequel Star Wars trilogies, the ending of Din Djarin and Grogu's story has been wrapped in mystery since the beginning, but is finally looking clearer after the huge Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration 2023.

Star Wars Celebration brought news of several major movie reveals, and these included a feature-length The Mandalorian movie project. This comes as part of a massive Star Wars expansion under Disney, with forthcoming movies ranging from the earliest reaches of George Lucas' timeline to the unexplored territory beyond Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The confirmed The Mandalorian movie sits between these two eras, and despite still being in the early stages of development, important details have already been revealed.

The Mandalorian Movie Is The Culmination Of The Star Wars TV Shows

With The Mandalorian season 3 still airing as the Star Wars Celebration announcement was made, Din Djarin and Grogu's story remains very much on the small screen for now. However, those narrative threads will eventually culminate in a The Mandalorian movie, wrapping up the famous duo's arc. Lucasfilm also describes its Mandalorian movie as concluding the overarching narrative woven by The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. Exactly what this means for the future of Star Wars shows on Disney+ remains to be seen, but the end of the tale is now undoubtedly in sight.

Given that Lucasfilm promises resolution to the stories of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka in its The Mandalorian movie, some potential plot points naturally reveal themselves. Grand Admiral Thrawn, Palpatine's resurrection, the fate of the Mandalorian people, and the future of Grogu are all possible topics that Star Wars' new The Mandalorian movie could touch upon. Story details will likely become clearer as Disney+'s Star Wars tale continues to unfold.

Which Cast & Crew Will Return For The Mandalorian Movie

Dave Filoni is confirmed to direct Lucasfilm's The Mandalorian movie. As the protégé of George Lucas, Filoni serves as an executive producer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. While cast details remain unknown at present, it seems highly likely that Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin alongside puppet pal Grogu. Appearances from other long-serving The Mandalorian characters such as Carl Weathers' Greef Karga, Emily Swallow's Armorer and Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon are also distinctly possible.

With Lucasfilm's The Mandalorian movie billed as the culmination of the wider Mandoverse, it also seems inevitable that Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano, and Temuera Morrison will once again portray Boba Fett. That would also suggest a place for Ming-Na Wen, who has played Fennec Shand in multiple Star Wars TV shows. Nevertheless, an official cast announcement is yet to be made.

When Will The Mandalorian's Star Wars Movie Release?

The Star Wars Celebration announcement featured no information on when The Mandalorian's movie would release. Given that the project is wrapped up within several Star Wars TV shows that may receive additional seasons, The Mandalorian's movie release is potentially dependent on the futures of its TV counterpart. Whether Ahsoka season 2 or The Mandalorian season 4 happens will naturally affect the movie's timeline. Do not expect to be seeing Grogu cause mischief on the big screen any time soon.
