This is the series that has created a surprise in 2021. Before the very recent successes of Super Mario Bros., the movie and The Last of Us , video game adaptations on the small and big screen were rarely welcomed. Three years ago, the release of Arcane created the event , the series paying a very nice tribute to League of Legends (universe from which it is inspired).
The work of Riot Games and the French studio Fortiche accumulated 38 million hours of viewing between November 15 and 21. Interest in this production was not limited to France; Netflix recorded audience peaks all over the world. Viewers have devoured the first nine episodes and they're just waiting for one thing: the release of season 2 . They thought they would discover it in the next few months, but the director of Riot Games has just announced bad news.
Victim of his own success
The information comes to us from the Win site , which relayed an interview with Nicolas Laurent (director of Riot Games). We learn that this second salvo "is not yet ready" and that it would not be broadcast before 2024. He argues that this delay is due to two factors. “On the one hand, we want quality. We don't want to rush, and that takes time. The other reason, which he describes as "bad", is simple: the team didn't expect the first season to be so successful. “If we had known, we could have started the second much earlier. But we didn't know, and now we are paying the price. Nicolas Laurent concluded by specifying that “unfortunately, it will not be for this year” .
As a reminder, the first salvo had required five years of work. Despite the disappointment of having to wait a few more months, we can only understand this desire to do as well (or even better) than the first season.
