ARCANE S2: COULD RIOT'S SERIES BE HEADING TO NOXUS?

Arcane season 2 has officially been pushed back and will not see the light of day in 2023. Riot and Fortiche Production say they want to preserve the quality of the series to have a chance of surpassing the excellent first season. To take our troubles patiently, let's speculate on the possible directions that the sequel to Arcane can take.

Caitlyn Sheriff, Jayce take the reins of Piltover and Viktor merge with the Hexcore

This theory would be the logical continuation of the narrative frame of the first season: following Jinx 's attack on the council, Jayce , Mel and Viktor barely survive. Viktor is protected by the Hexcore, the arcane artifact of dubious origins which gradually takes control of his thoughts, while Mel is protected by the gold jewel with magical properties that we see at the very end of the last episode. . Jayce will be seriously injured, which will encourage Viktor to experiment even more on transhumanism, until becoming the cyborg that we know in League of Legends .

Vi and Caitlyn will go in search of Jinx , until imprisoning her at the end of the series, which will be worth to Caitlyn to be designated sheriff. This theory is the one that would come closest to the League of Legends universe , but it would still focus on the characters and settings of the first season. Fortiche showed its ambition to include the entire Runeterra universe and teased a particularly attractive destination for a second season.

Noxus and the Immortal Bastion

The empire of Noxus, from which the family of Mel Medarda , one of the protagonists of the first season, comes has already made its influence felt in Piltover . His mother, Ambessa Medarda , an aristocrat and warlord, perfectly embodies the city's creed: Noxus idolizes strength and domination, but is also pragmatic and formidable in politics and espionage. Ambessa is powerful, imposing, but also smart and devious, trying to manipulate Jayce and her daughter to achieve her goals.

If Arcane decides to take us to Noxus , we will have to expect a military and fanatical atmosphere, but also sordid political plots. It is also likely that the Immortal Bastion is part of the plot: the central tower of the city where an evil entity has been imprisoned for millennia is at the center of the painting that Mel completes at the end of the first season. Following the story of Noxus and leaving Piltover and Zaun would mean relegating the story of Caitlyn and Vi to the background, which we obviously don't want. However, the city has a rich and complex history that would be exciting to explore.

Rise of Swain, High General of Noxus

Another element that supports the theory of a Noxus- based sequel is the frequent presence of crows at important plot points. Ravens in the Runeterra universe are servants of Raum , the demon controlled by Swain , the ruler of Noxus . The placement of Arcane season 1 in the Runeterra timeline is unclear, but Swain may well already be in control of Noxus throughout the plot, watching Jinx 's evolution through his crows. . Otherwise, Swain could still be just a fallen officer, and the crows would be dispatched by Raum himself, who saw Jinx as a potential hostess. The plot of Noxus could then revolve around his meeting with Swain and the latter's seizure of power.

This theory is also supported by the dialogues of Ambessa Medarda when she announces to her daughter that her brother died for having “crossed paths with the wrong person,” the person from whom she wishes to defend herself with the weapons of Jayce . Few things could scare someone like Ambessa Medarda , other than a general supported for a primordial demon. Swain 's presence would involve a number of mind-blowing storylines: cabals, conspiracies, primal demons, and a slew of other League of Legends champions . However, if season 1 has proven one thing, it's that Fortiche knows how to condense the abundant universe of Runeterra in a faithful and readable way. Additionally, the title ' Arcane ' would remain relevant given the history of the great general.
