Crime Minds: Evolution, which hit TV screens on November 24, 2022, is a reboot of the original Criminal Minds show.
Although it's getting pretty good ratings and reviews, fans feel that it lacks one thing that was in the original show, and it spoils the overall impression of the series. The Criminal Minds reboot continues to follow the various members of the BAU as they try to hunt down an incredibly sprawling network of brutal serial killers.Several fan-favorite characters, including David Rossi and Emily Prentiss, are back in the long-awaited continuation of the BAU group story.
While fans are happy that the sequel doesn't start the story from scratch with completely new characters and they get to see the heroes they've loved for many years, not everyone has returned to the hunt for serial killers. Most of all, the viewers were upset by the absence of the well-deserved favorite of the majority Dr. Spencer Reid. Reid is a socially awkward individual who struggles with his feelings and emotions.
It was his awkwardness and brilliant mind that captivated fans. But it's not even Reid's absence that fans think will keep the sequel from reaching the heights of the original show. What made Criminal Minds such a special show was the relationships within the group. Fans say the new series focuses less on character interaction and more on catching criminals, making it like any other procedural on TV. While the plot of the original series was quite dark and gruesome, as the characters had to catch serial killers and get into their perverted motivations, the support and love of absolutely every BAU member was the bright ray of light that lit up the tension of the series.
"Yep, the weddings, even the funerals, all of it showed the deep bond between the team. Even when Rossi is helping make a crib for Matt or having a cooking night to bring the group back together. Those little moments make the show work, otherwise it's too dark and hard to swallow," Reddit user CJaneNorman commented. Although the relationship dynamics within the BAU group have changed, fans are still hoping to see the entire gang together in at least one of the episodes.
